The Floating Boy of Oldfields Hall
I experienced this fellow at the bottom of Muddy Lane many years ago. I was walking the dog, deep in thought, and had passed over the bridge and looked up and saw this young man dressed very much like the mock-up below. He floated around 18 inches above the surface of the lane.
He was looking directly at me and then vanished. Who was he? A Bamford as the family home was Oldfields Hall? Or just a random lad wandering along the ancient pathway that Muddy Lane is?
Local psychics note the entire old Bamford estate (Oldfields Hall) there as humming with energy and activity. People feel they are being watched, followed especially on the lane and other ghosts have been sighted there, disembodied voices, and more.
The hall itself is reputed to have several ghosts, often attired in Victorian clothing. The Picknalls Valley bottom there has some more malignant entities lurking at the riverside and at the site of the Round Ring* (see Story The Round Ring Wraiths) pool on the other side of the railway around the springs.
